Oleanna Question # 9

In my perspective the play Oleanna brought a large amount of skepticism to me. Carol's accusations of rape seemed unethical according to the law. Rape is any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person. Sexual harassment is defined different in the law. In the beginning Carol had flirtatious characteristics towards John, which lead me to believe she had a premeditated motive to destroy John's book. Carol's incapability of understanding John's teaching methods would make her vulnerable to pursue such actions. I feel that Carol's actions towards the situation were exaggerated, and could have been solved in a orderly manner.

In addition, John's behavior was totally inappropriate. A professor on this level of teaching should obtain professionalism. John was wrong when he proceeded to bring about family matters into a student teacher relationship. Furthermore, touching a student in my opinion is completely unacceptable, and could lead to a sexual harassment accusation. John's negative attributes he brings to teaching makes me wonder why he chose such a field. John may have been provoked, but to perform such a violent action of abusive conduct towards a student is illegal. In my opinion John will now have to fave reality, and the chargers he shall face. In conclusion, I feel this was a very controversial and disturbing play.
